What is LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy?
It’s important to have a therapist who understands you. LGBTQ+ affirming therapy embraces identities that are at odds with societal expectations. As a queer therapist, I want to make sure that you feel supported and celebrated in therapy! We will explore together how society, systems of oppression, and lived experience shape us - while honoring and building on your innate resiliences and strengths.
I want to acknowledge that therapy alone cannot solve the impacts of heteronormativity, racism, capitalism, ableism, etc. I hope, however, that it provides a space to process the impacts of these systems and practice resistance. I am passionate about supporting you in your process of healing - whether it’s about gender, sexuality, mental health stuff, or anything else.
LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy
Together, we can explore:
Sexuality and gender identity
Gender exploration, expression, and euphoria
Coping with feelings of dysphoria, shame, and disconnection
Feeling “queer enough” & processing experiences around invisibility and isolation
Navigating the coming out process
Embracing fluidity around identity, expression, and desires
Impacts of oppression, privilege, family, culture, societal expectations and norms
How body image, disordered eating, and beauty standards are impacting you
Ways to strengthen your relationships
Pre-surgical assessments in accordance with WPATH Standards of Care
Creativity, art, connecting with your interests
Spirituality and queerness
Or maybe you just want a therapist who is LGBTQ affirming, and a space to work through other life stuff with without feeling stigmatized or having to “explain” things!
What to Expect from LGBTQ+ Therapy
I work with clients in Oregon virtually via telehealth. I see California clients virtually and in San Francisco. I also offer walk-and-talk sessions in the Bay Area.
Together, we will explore your experiences and your strengths, and find areas where there’s room for growth and change. In addition to affirmative therapy, my approach is informed by parts work, narrative theory, ecopsychology, and contemporary psychodynamics.
I believe that you are the expert on your experiences and your life, and view my role as a guide and collaborator. You can expect sessions with me to have a good dose of curiosity, warmth, playfulness, and authenticity. I strive for therapy to be a compassionate and non-judgemental space for everyone. My approach centers on a multicultural and social justice lens—meaning that my work embraces intersectionality, cultural identities, social locations, and the broader contexts of your lived experience.
Pricing and Insurance
My full fee is $150 per 50 minute psychotherapy session. I have a sliding scale which is reserved for people in financial need. I provide superbills for my out-of-network clients and am happy to help with insurance reimbursement. I accept vouchers from the Loveland Foundation as well.
